Their romantic relationship had already been an open secret, and today they made it official. It remains uncertain if this is Sun Yang's first marriage, as he is reported to have an 8-year-old son.

According to rumors, Sun Yang's ex-girlfriend was Li Yingnian, a flight attendantfor China Southern Airlines in Jinan, Shandong. They met on a plane in 2010 and started dating before the 2012 London Olympics, which formed a typical age-gap relationship. The rumor has it that in 2013, they broke up because Sun Yang's mother disapprovedthe relationship, but Li Yingnian was already pregnant with Sun Yang's child. As compensation, Sun Yang's mother provided her with a villa in Jinan. But Sun Yang himself denied this claim and posted on Weibo, saying, "Rumors end with the wise."
